WOW!!!

This Claude Monet painting owned by the estate of a family back home sold tonight at Christie's Auction house in London for £40,921,250 ($80,451,178) ~ yep 80 million dollars!!!

The painting "Le Bassin Aux Nympheas" was the second highest price EVER paid for a piece of art in Europe. I was following this auction as there were many pieces from this family. I am amazed at the price collectors are willing to pay for art.

I love Monet and would be thrilled to own one of his paintings. But 80 million dollars! Can you imagine what good you could do with this money. There is an article on the CNN website about families in Indonesia who have to give up their children for adoption because they can't support them on their $3 a day income. This is just one example of those needing help all over the world. Bill Gates, Oprah Winfrey, Paul Newman, to name a few, have used their talent and wealth to ease suffering and help the under priviledged. I hope the owners of this painting are able to do the same.

I just do not get it. I agree with Gingersnap. There are so many better things to do with money then a painting.
